Qdoba to launch vegan option in Las Vegas

Are we in the throes of a vegan fast food revolution?

First, it was White Castle and the partnering with Impossible to bring in a vegan patty, then it was Carl’s Jr. bringing in the Beyond burger followed by Del Taco launching their Beyond Avocado Tacos in April nationwide. Coming on the heels of the launch is Qdoba Mexican Eats, a fast-casual Mexican chain. The popular spot with more than 750 locations nationwide is partnering with Impossible to bring the Impossible Burger in as an offering.

Currently in Brooklyn, Denver and Los Angeles, the new Impossible items make their way to Las Vegas Qdoba’s on May 28.

The launch of these vegan options make this business the largest Mexican fast-casual to serve plant-based protein on their menu.

“Launching this test is an exciting milestone for Qdoba as we experiment with options for our customers’ evolving dietary preferences, especially those looking for a meatless option,” says Jill Adams, Senior Vice President of Marketing for the company. “Our culinary team used Impossible as a starting point and added their own flavorful twist to create a product that guests can only get at Qdoba.”

The new menu items using Impossible are the chef-inspired Qdoba Impossible Bowl with cilantro-lime rice and black beans (hold the cheese), pico de gallo, guac and seasoned Impossible; and the Qdoba Impossible Taco featuring a warm corn tortilla filled with Impossible, red onions, cilantro and salsa.

If those dishes aren’t your thing, you can always create your own burrito, bowl or salad using the seasoned Impossible meat.

The vegan revolution in Vegas doesn’t stop here. Next up: the Impossible Burger at Burger King. Sadly, the Pizza Hut vegan cheese option reported to arrive in the States last week from numerous outlets is not correct. A spokesperson for Pizza Hut told Vegans, Baby “Pizza Hut does not have plans at this time to carry vegan cheese at US locations.” Here’s to hoping those rumors first reported come to fruition sooner than later!
